Michael Matheson MSP, Caroline McAlpine, Continence Link Nurse, Rita McDade, Continence Advisor, Head of Service and Sheena Dunsmore, Manager Kidney Kids Scotland

Michael Matheson, MSP helped Kidney Kids Scotland hand over a cheque for £9,700 to fund a Bladder Scanner and Flow Meter for use by the Continence Advisory Team in NHS Forth Valley. One of the Charity’s main aims is to greatly reduce the amount of children having to go through the trauma of being catheterised. The scan performed is a very simple pain free process which can be made into a game for the children. These bladder scanners assess how well each child is able to empty his/her bladder both before and after bladder training sessions, thus hopefully preventing these children from possibly suffering from further infections. Prevention being better than cure. These scanners also prevent the children and their families having to make the arduous journey to and from one of the main centre hospitals thus enabling a nurse specialist whom the children already know and trust to scan these children during their clinic visit in an area they are familiar with.

Children, adolescents, parents, carers and professionals working with children with bladder and bowel difficulties can contact a CONFIDENTIAL HELPLINE for advice and support on 01324 827420 Monday to Thursday (message service only, can request a call back) Friday 9.30 - 4.30 (to speak with an advisor)
