Dietary Advice in Renal Disease

Certain kidney conditions require patients to follow a special diet. The dietary advice depends on the renal condition diagnosed and the child’s results. Each child requiring advice should be assessed by a Registered Dietitian and the advice should be adapted to suit eating habits and lifestyle. If you have been advised to change your child’s diet and need further advice ask your doctor to refer you to a dietitian or contact the dietitian you have seen in the past.

SALT INTAKE

Children with Nephrotic Syndrome, High Blood Pressure, on Dialysis or who have had Kidney Transplants should limit salt intake. It is impossible to avoid salt completely as it occurs naturally in many foods. Follow the hints to avoid excessive salt intake.
