INNES'S STORY BY MUM LINDSAY
Innes is a wild, strong and determined 4year old who is looked after by the wonderful Renal and Urology teams at the QEU Children’s Hospital.
If you ever meet Innes you would never know about his condition but unfortunately he suffers from Bilateral Hydroureteronephrosis and is regularly monitored at the hospital.
Innes’ condition was initially detected during my pregnancy at my 20week scan. He had very dilated kidneys and suspected PUV. From then we were seen by Fetal Medicine and plans were put in place for treatment and surgery when Innes arrived.
When Innes was born 1.3.20 unfortunately things were much more severe than predicted from my scans and we spent five weeks in hospital where he had various surgeries to try and improve his renal function. The doctors and nurses were wonderful and helped us through what was a very challenging time for Alastair and I as new parents of an unwell baby in the middle of a pandemic.
When we finally got home, Innes had a ureterostomy, catheter and lots of medication. Following many hospital visits and further procedures and surgeries during his first year Innes’ kidney function continued to show improvement. Now over 4 years later he continues to surprise and impress his doctors considering how things looked when he was born.
For now Innes’ kidney function is good and we are truly grateful to everyone who has been involved in his care. We know there will be difficult times ahead for Innes and that his health and kidney function can not be fully predicted, but we trust that he is being closely monitored and looked after by his team at the QEU.
Innes takes everything in his stride and his strength and resilience are inspiring. He is our super star!
